The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) have just announced the AICTE-Inter-Institutional Biomedical Innovations Programme (IBIP).

The effort will foster multidisciplinary research and innovation in engineering and medical education.

“The collaboration between engineering and medical students will foster creativity, innovation, and a deeper understanding of the complex challenges in healthcare. By leveraging their complementary skills and knowledge, students from both disciplines can develop impactful solutions that improve patient care and advance the field of medicine,” said AICTE Chairman Prof T G Sitharam during the launch event.

An MoU was exchanged between Prof Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE, Dr Taslimarif Saiyed, CEO and Director of C-CAMP and Dr Ravi Nayar, Programme Lead of C-CAMP IBIP, at AICTE headquarters in New Delhi.

In addition to interdisciplinary education, the programme will also offer an online structured Bio Entrepreneurship Didactic course accredited by the Healthcare Sector Skill Council.

Under the IBIP, the institutions will be provided with a grant of Rs 10 lakh if they are successful in the development and implementation of at least 10 ideas addressing the challenges in the field.

Dr Ravi Nayar, Programme Lead, C-CAMP IBIP, said, “The visionary step of AICTE of encouraging interdisciplinary innovations, acknowledging the role played by C-CAMP in this regard by involving us in the nationwide rollout, will go a long way in improving the quality of innovations and fostering entrepreneurship spirit among doctors and engineers nationwide.”

Institutions chosen for the AICTE-IBIP will be a part of the network that will allow them to learn from each other’s projects, collaborate, and improve their overall effectiveness.
