The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced a new model curriculum for undergraduate Electrical Engineering courses that aims to integrate technical education with industry demands and global norms. Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, and Prof. Prem Kumar Kalra, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Dayalbagh Educational Institute, who chaired the expert group responsible for curriculum design, honored the inaugural ceremony.
During his keynote address, Prof. Sitharam praised the committee’s work and stressed the importance of this curriculum in fostering technical excellence and innovation. “Our vision is to equip students with skills that are not only industry-relevant but also in line with global standards, preparing them to excel in a competitive, technology-driven world,” he remarked.
The new curriculum places a focus on practical, hands-on training. Prof. Sitharam emphasized the importance of industrial exposure, field trips, and internships in preparing students for the workplace. “By offering real-world experience alongside academic learning, we aim to develop engineers who are not only skilled but also possess the leadership qualities to drive societal change,” according to him.
In addition to basic disciplines, the curriculum includes elective courses in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, ensuring that students are prepared to face new technological problems. The program also offers minor specializations and micro-credit courses, which allow students to build competence in multidisciplinary disciplines, increasing their employability and relevance in a continually changing work market.
