The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) issued guidelines and rules regarding the autonomy of polytechnic institutes. These requirements are critical for granting polytechnic colleges autonomous status.
The following are the standards that institutions must adhere to:

Existence and certification
According to the circular, the institutions must be at least ten years old and hold NIIA certification for at least 30% of their qualifying programs. The accreditation should be valid for an additional year from the date of application submission. Otherwise, the institution should have been there for more than 25 years.

Faculty with extensive experience

According to the circular, at least 50% of the faculty members must be from the AICTE approved faculty pattern and work on a regular basis. At least 60% of teachers should have more than five years of experience, with 50% retained in the previous three years.

Over 50% of the institution's faculty members should have completed at least one MOOCs or SWAYAM/FDP (minimum of two weeks)/ Industrial Training (minimum of three weeks) course in the current/previous academic year.

Infrastructure and performance of the institution

The institution's performance must be 60% or above in all semesters of the previous three academic years. In the preceding three academic years, the institution's admission status should have been at least 80%. According to final year pass-outs, about 75% of students should have found placement or chosen entrepreneurship/higher education throughout the previous three academic years.

While granting an Extension of Approval (EOA) for the current academic year, the school must also fulfill AICTE infrastructure standards with no deficiencies.
