Bihar Govt Rolls Out Free AI Courses

In a major push to modernise technical education and prepare students for the evolving demands of the workforce, the Bihar government announced that Artificial Intelligence AI courses will be introduced in all 38 government engineering colleges in the state from the upcoming academic session. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost employability, expand digital literacy and ensure that engineering students are well prepared for careers in cutting-edge tech fields.

Under this new plan, each engineering college will receive funding to develop dedicated AI laboratories and essential infrastructure. The funding covers equipment, software and facilities needed to train students in topics such as machine learning, data analytics, Python programming and AI project work. This investment aims to provide hands-on experience and practical exposure rather than only textbooks and theory.

Importantly, the state government plans to offer these AI courses free of cost to students, making advanced tech education accessible to a wider range of learners from different economic backgrounds. The courses will be backed by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE and supported through partnerships with academic and technical institutions involved in curriculum development and faculty training.

The introduction of AI into the engineering curriculum reflects Bihar’s push to align its higher education system with global trends. As industries increasingly rely on AI-powered solutions in sectors such as healthcare, finance, agriculture and cybersecurity, having a workforce trained in AI and machine learning is seen as a critical competitive advantage for students graduating from these colleges.

Education officials say the new programme will not just cover fundamentals of AI but also include lab-based learning and real-world problem solving. This means students are expected to work on projects that mimic industry challenges, gaining valuable experience before they even enter the job market.

The move has drawn praise from educators and technology experts who believe that early exposure to AI will broaden students’ career options and equip them with skills highly sought after in the job market. Some observers noted that this initiative could reduce the digital skills gap and make the state’s engineering graduates more attractive to employers nationally and globally.

Officials also indicated that similar new-age programmes in fields like cybersecurity, internet of things IoT and data science might be introduced soon, further expanding the tech education portfolio in Bihar’s colleges.

By investing in AI and modern technologies now, the Bihar government is betting on a future where its young engineers are not only job seekers but innovators and tech leaders.
