Board raises certificate correction fee from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 starting 2026.
Students affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education are set to face higher costs when requesting corrections to their academic certificates. The board has announced that from the academic year 2026 onwards, the fee for making amendments to Class 10 and Class 12 certificates will increase from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000.
The decision was reportedly approved by the board’s governing body following recommendations from its examination committee. Officials stated that the change aims to manage the growing number of correction requests and ensure that demographic details such as student names, parents’ names and dates of birth are verified carefully before certificates are issued.
Under the revised structure, corrections involving key personal information will now attract the higher fee. The board has also indicated that additional charges may apply if requests are submitted beyond the stipulated correction window or if documentation is incomplete. This move is intended to encourage schools and students to double check details before final submission.
Previously, the ₹1,000 fee had remained unchanged for several years despite an increase in the number of correction applications each year. The board had repeatedly advised schools to ensure accuracy in student records to avoid post result changes. However, errors continued to occur, leading to a steady stream of amendment requests.
The sharp rise in fees has sparked discussion among students and parents. Some feel that the higher charge could become a financial burden, especially in cases where mistakes were clerical in nature and not the fault of students. Others argue that such costs may discourage genuine correction requests.
CBSE officials have defended the increase, stating that processing corrections requires careful scrutiny and administrative resources. They believe the revised fee will help reduce unnecessary applications and streamline operations at regional offices.
Going forward, students and schools are strongly advised to verify all submitted details thoroughly to avoid the need for costly amendments later.
