The CBSE has mandated the establishment of 'Composite Skill Labs' in all affiliated schools to enhance skill education as per the National Curriculum Framework.
The Central Board of Secondary Instruction (CBSE) has issued a directive ordering the creation of 'Composite Skill Labs' in all affiliated schools to enhance skill instruction in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). Schools are directed to build up either a single 600-square-foot Composite Skill Lab for grades 6-12 or two separate 400-square-foot labs—one for grades 6-10 and the other for grades 11–12.
The notification specifies that a fully equipped Composite Skill Lab is mandatory for all schools seeking new affiliations with CBSE. Schools already affiliated must set up these labs within three years.
The NCF-SE emphasises the need for schools to create opportunities for students to engage in hands-on tasks and projects linked to their selected skills. The establishment of well-equipped skill labs and vocational training centres is crucial to providing an environment conducive to practical learning and skill development.
According to the notification, setting up 'Composite Skill Labs' will enable schools to provide practical training aligned with industry requirements, improve students' employment prospects in various trades and vocations, explore diverse career pathways beyond traditional routes, and cultivate entrepreneurial skills amongst students.
