The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) transitions to a hybrid format, offering flexibility to applicants.
The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) has been administered online for the past two years. But now it's turning hybrid, allowing applicants, particularly those from remote locations, to take the exam closer to home. Registration for this test, which is handled by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the UGC, is likely to begin around February 19.
The UGC chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar, outlined several important modifications for the third edition of the test, which will take place from May 15 to May 31. Subjects with a higher registration rate will use OMR sheets rather than the Computer Based Test (CBT) format.
Last year, almost 28 lakh applicants sat the CUET UG exam, with Uttar Pradesh receiving the most applications.
The exam will have three shifts each day: 9 am to 11 am, 12.30 pm to 2 pm, and 4 pm to 5.30 pm. Kumar mentioned that the hybrid format will reduce the number of exam days. Regarding result calculation, he said decisions will be made based on the situation.
Now, candidates can only choose six subjects instead of ten. Kumar explained that not many students were choosing all ten options, and it caused problems in assigning exam centers.
He said, “Since few students were picking the large number of choices, allotment of centers became very complex. Since our data shows that most students were only taking 4 or 5 papers, in this CUET UG, we will permit students to take only 6 test papers, which would include three domain subjects, two languages and the general test.”
Kumar also mentioned that the NTA is working to keep the difficulty level moderate for CUET UG 2024 to prevent stress among students.
