Deakin University establishes its first campus in India at GIFT City, Gujarat, making it the first international institution to do so.
Philip Green OAM, Australia's high commissioner to India, launched the first Deakin University branch in GIFT City, Gujarat. It's the first international institution to establish a campus in India.
The opening took place at the 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat, where the Australian High Commissioner to India led a 90-member group that included representatives from 36 Australian colleges. In 2023, Australia welcomed nearly 122,000 Indian students, offering them academic certificates for worldwide professions.
“Deakin University has had a remarkable 30-year presence in India, with investments in all aspects of higher education from research collaborations with the IIT, establishing a joint centre focussed on nanotechnology and sustainability with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to their global job readiness programme for skilling young India with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The campus is the next step in Deakin University’s long-term strategy of investment in India’s future,” says Philip Green OAM.
“The opening is a testament to India’s progressive education policy and the cordial relations between the two nations. In the later phase of 2024, we look forward to celebrating the opening of India’s second foreign branch campus in GIFT City by the University of Wollongong which is also from Australia,” he adds.
