Delhi CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates advanced computer labs in 100 government schools citywide initiative.
In a big step for education in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 100 advanced computer labs in government schools, a move aimed at improving digital learning for students. The launch happened under the Digital Equalizer Program, a partnership between the Delhi government, the American India Foundation, and the Ladli Foundation Trust. This was done at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Mansarovar Garden, where new school buildings were also inaugurated the same day.
Each of the new ICT labs now has around 20 computers and an interactive flat panel display, giving students access to modern technology that was often missing earlier. The idea behind this rollout is simple but powerful: equip young learners with tools they need to learn not just basic computer knowledge but also future tech oriented skills. In today’s fast changing world, digital exposure matters a lot, and many students were earlier lacking it.
Trained staff will assist both teachers and students so that these labs are properly used and not just locked rooms with equipment. Officials say the goal is not only to install hardware, but to ensure that children from every background get equal opportunity to develop digital literacy. Many government school students earlier had limited access to computers or internet, which made it difficult for them to compete with private school peers. With these labs operational, that gap may slowly reduce.
The Chief Minister also highlighted how education is evolving and digital skills are becoming as important as traditional subjects. Preparing students for future careers where technology plays major role is now essential. The initiative reflects a broader push to modernize public education and make it more practical and forward looking.
Parents and teachers who attended the event expressed hope that these labs will spark curiosity among students. Some teachers shared that children already seem excited about learning coding basics and exploring new software tools. While this is definitely a major step forward, the real success will depend on consistent usage and regular updates in curriculum. For now, Delhi government schools have taken an important leap towards digital transformation.
