The University of Delhi now allows students to pursue two degree programs concurrently—one in traditional mode and another through Open and Distance Learning. F
The University of Delhi (DU) has officially stated that students can now pursue two degree programs concurrently at the university. According to a recent announcement, students can enroll in one degree through the traditional mode at any DU college or department, while the second degree can be pursued through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) through the School of Open Learning.
This new regulation allows current and prospective DU students to pursue dual degrees. However, students cannot pursue two comparable degrees, such as BCom (Hons) and BCom (Pass), even if one is in ODL mode.
Students pursuing dual degrees are required to meet the academic requirements for each programme separately. This includes attending classes, completing assignments, giving presentations, passing assessments, and meeting promotion criteria for each programme.
To avoid duplicating mandatory courses, students must complete the compulsory courses for the programme they enroll in first, whether it's in the regular or ODL mode. The corresponding courses in the second programme will be substituted with appropriate alternatives.
For example, if a student first enrolls in a regular programme, they must complete the required courses for that program, and vice versa for ODL enrollment.
For undergraduate programmes, students are required to complete mandatory courses such as Environmental Science (EVS) and Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) as part of the first program they enroll in. If these courses are also required in the second degree, they will be replaced with relevant alternatives.
For instance, students enrolled in two undergraduate degrees will take AEC language and EVS courses for their regular program, while they can choose a different AEC language or opt for Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) or Value Addition Courses (VAC) for the ODL degree.
Similarly, if a student is pursuing two BA degrees, they may select courses from the Generic Elective (GE) pool instead of repeating a Generic Elective (Language) course.
For students completing a research theme or project in their fourth year, each degree's project or theme must be unique. Additionally, credits earned from the two programmes cannot be combined to obtain a major or minor in any discipline.
