Paying a sentimental tribute to educational excellence, the Ministry of Education of India has selected 21 excellent teachers of Higher Education Institutions and Polytechnic for National Teacher Award (NAT) 2025. This honour, National Education Policy (NEP), inspired by the aspirations of 2020, recognizes excellent faculty members beyond school classes.

Earlier only the NAT limited to school teachers was extended in the year 2023, so that the invaluable contribution of teachers of universities and technical institutes could also be accepted. Teachers were selected Based on standards such as the effectiveness of teaching, social access, innovation and research, which reflect an overall commitment to education.

The rigorous selection unfolded in two stages: an initial screening by a preliminary committee, followed by evaluations by a national jury. Nominations poured in via an open online portal, welcoming self-recommendations, peer endorsements, and institutional entries.

The 21 awardees represent a tapestry of India’s diverse academic landscape from engineering and sciences to humanities and management; from central universities to polytechnics. States like Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi are proudly represented.

National Teacher Award (NAT) is not just a degree, but a symbol of inspiration. These teachers are bringing changes - adopting modern teaching practices, bridging educational differences, empowering the disadvantaged students and publishing the route for generations to come. By honouring them, the nation is celebrating not only skills but also their dedicated heart.

The award ceremony will be held in September, in which these teachers will be given medals, citation and national recognition. At a time when the scenario of teaching is changing rapidly, this initiative re-establishes an unwavering truth: There is a great teacher behind every great student.
