Nationwide Buildathon empowers students to create prototypes, driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-reliant India vision.
The Union Education Ministry has launched Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025, a nationwide innovation movement aimed at engaging school students across India, under the aegis of DoSEL in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and AICTE. At the inauguration, the jingle and logo of Buildathon was also unveiled.
Minister Dharmendra Pradhan describe the Buildathon as the largest-ever school hackathon, intended to promote a culture of grassroots innovation by urging students to develop ideas and prototypes along four themes: Vocal for Local, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swadeshi, and Samriddhi. He said the initiative will further embedding innovation into the school ecosystem.
Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, also underscore the importance of the event in nurturing young problem-solvers nationally and globally. He noted that the Buildathon build on successes from the 2024 School Innovation Marathon, which led to programs such as the Student Innovator Programme (SIP) and Student Entrepreneurship Programme (SEP), and even patents and startups emerging from Atal Tinkering Labs.
Registration open from September 23 to October 6 on the Buildathon portal; then schools has a preparation window (October 6–13) during which teachers guide teams. Students will submit idea and prototypes via the portal, and a Live Synchronized Innovation Event is set for October 13. Final entries will be accepting until October 31.
A panel of expert will evaluate submission from November 1 through December 31. The winners (top 1,000+ entries) will be felicitated in January 2026. The Buildathon aim to harness creativity at the school level and scale it into national recognition.
