IIM Lucknow Introduces Course on 'The Wisdom of Indian Philosophy'

IIM Lucknow offers an elective course on Indian philosophy, focusing on ancient teachings for modern well-being.

An elective course on "The Wisdom of Indian Philosophy" at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow has recently undergone a restructuring. The English-language course incorporates several elements of contemporary thinking. It mainly relies on principles of Indian philosophy that were translated into Sanskrit from the Bhagavad Gita, Samkhya Karika, and Patanjali Yoga Sutras.

The course is 15 hours long and is now in its fourth year. Both the campuses in Lucknow and Noida are teaching it. Dr. Anadi Saran Pande, a professor of strategic management at IIM Lucknow, developed the course. The goal of the course is to help students better manage their own lives by lowering stress and anxiety levels, increasing focus, and enhancing mental health.

The course covers a wide range of topics, including metaphysics, aesthetics, epistemology, sociology, psychology, ethics, and the life sciences as well as the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and a person's interactions with their environment.

For students to understand the practical applications of such teachings, the course combines ancient proverbs with modern research on theories of consciousness as well as scientific and medical evidence.

The program attempts to introduce ethical action concepts to students. The program's main goal is to provide students with the knowledge, values, and abilities that will help them become the best corporate citizens possible. This course includes a lot of material on the theory of karma.

The three major schools of Indian philosophy, Samkhya, Yoga, and Vedanta, are the focus of the course. It focuses on ethical ideas and beliefs that could serve as an example for kids. In order to provide pupils with a better understanding of Indian philosophy, many Sanskrit sutras are also read aloud and debated in the classroom. It received the "Best Non-Conventional Course" Award from IIM Lucknow MBA students in 2022–2023.
