Microsoft To Train 20 Lakh Teachers

Microsoft has announced a large scale initiative to equip teachers across India with artificial intelligence skills. Under the programme called Microsoft Elevate for Educators, the company aims to train 20 lakh teachers from nearly 2 lakh schools and institutions by the year 2030. The initiative is being described as one of the biggest AI capacity building efforts focused on educators in Asia.

The programme was launched at an event in Delhi, where senior company leaders highlighted the importance of preparing teachers for a rapidly changing digital world. The idea is simple but powerful. If teachers understand AI properly, they can guide students in using technology responsibly and creatively. Instead of fearing automation, classrooms can become spaces where innovation is encouraged.

Through partnerships with key education bodies such as CBSE, NCERT and AICTE, the initiative plans to gradually integrate AI concepts into everyday learning. The focus is not only on advanced coding or robotics, but also on basic AI literacy and computational thinking. In fact, the plan includes introducing AI related awareness from as early as Grade 3, so children grow up comfortable with emerging technologies.

Beyond training sessions, the programme also aims to establish AI labs, educator academies and digital hubs in thousands of institutions. The goal is to create a long term ecosystem where teachers can continue learning and sharing knowledge with each other. It is not just one workshop and finished, but an ongoing support system.

As artificial intelligence becomes central to industries and economies, initiatives like this may help India stay competitive globally. More importantly, it can empower teachers to feel confident rather than overwhelmed by new tools. When teachers feel prepared, students automatically benefit.
