NAT 2024: Ministry Unveils Exceptional Teachers for National Award

The Ministry of Education has announced a list of sixteen instructors who will receive the National Awards to instructors (NAT) 2024 on September 5. Teachers have been selected from HEIs and Polytechnics. The 16 selected instructors come from Polytechnics, State Universities, and Central Higher Education Institutions.

According to an official statement by the Ministry of Education, NAT is given for excellent teachers/faculty members of higher education institutions and polytechnics in the following categories:

Category I: Teachers from Higher Education Institutions:

Subcategory (i): Engineering & Technology; Architecture.

Subcategory (ii): Pure Sciences, which includes Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Medicine, and Pharmacy.

Subcategories (iii) include Arts and Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, and Management.

Category II: Teachers of Polytechnic Institutions: Total 10 Awards.

The selection is based on the teacher's performance in terms of Teaching Learning Effectiveness, Outreach Activities, Research and Innovation, Sponsored Research/Faculty Development Programs, and Consultancy Teaching. Learning effectiveness and outreach initiatives take precedence over the others.

The Ministry of Education's official website provides a full list of instructors.

The selection process for NAT-2024 consists of two parts. These include the review by a preliminary search-cum screening committee for the first shortlisting of contenders and a 'Jury' committee for selecting winners from the shortlisted nominees.

NEP 2020 recognises that motivated, energised and capable faculty is critical for advancement of the students, institution and profession. It also envisages incentives such as rewards and recognitions to cultivate a culture of excellence in the education ecosystem.

Nominations for NAT, 2024 were invited in online mode through Rashtriya Puraskar Portal and included provisions for self, institutional and peer nomination as part of Jan Bhagidari.
