CBSE has issued new guidelines advising schools to mandatorily use NCERT textbooks, with strict rules on supplementary materials to avoid objectionable content.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has just issued a recommendation on the use of NCERT textbooks in schools. According to an official announcement issued by the CBSE, the board has proposed amendments to the existing affiliation by-laws 2018. Schools and parents are encouraged to read the bylaw revisions.
The official notification read, “The following amendments have been made in chapter 2, clause 2 4. 7 of the Affiliation Bye-Laws 2018, in respect of the rule position on the provisions for use of the textbooks by schools and will come into force from the date of issue of this notification.”

2.4.7.1
Schools shall put a list of prescribed books for all the classes on their website with the written declaration duly signed by the manager and the principal to the effect that they have gone through the contents of the books prescribed by the school and own the responsibility. If a school is found prescribing a book having any objectionable content, the responsibility for such content shall lie with the school and action will be initiated against the school by the board.
The issued guidelines emphasize the importance of using NCERT/SCERT textbooks and taking extreme care in selecting any supplementary materials to ensure that they do not contain objectionable content.
