NMC Issues Clarification on Fake Permission Letter for Medical College

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has provided clarification over a fake certificate that was sent to GSL Medical College in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) submitted the letter requesting an increase of MD seats.

To be clear, NMC stated that the letter is a false or fabricated one and cannot be regarded as official authorization from the National Medical Commission's Medical Assessment and Rating Board.

The fake letter, which was made public on March 24, 2023, claimed that the NTR University of Health Sciences had accepted the applicant's application for admission for the 2023–2024 academic year.

In an official notice issued, the commission said, “It has come to the notice of Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of National Medical Commission that a forged/fake letter has been issued to GSL Medical College, Rajamundry for increase of seats in MD-Radio Diagnosis from 10 to 24 whereas no application was received from GSL Medical College, Rajamundry for increase of seats in MD Radio Diagnosis for the academic year 2023-24 and hence, no communication was sent to the college in this regard from MARB, NMC.”

“This permission for increase in seats of above mentioned PG course and admission of students will be for such a time the first batch of students admitted against the above course papers appears for the final examination in the subject,” it said. “The above facts are brought to the notice of all concerned and the general public to not take any action based on the fake/forged letter. Appropriate action is being taken in the matter in accordance with the law,” NMC added.

The NMC recently verified that fake approval letters for the renewal of MBBS courses had been sent to Santhiram Medical College in Kurnool and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram.
