President Emphasises Holistic Learning at Patanjali

At the second convocation ceremony of University of Patanjali in Haridwar, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, invoked the spirit of universal brotherhood, underscoring how ancient Vedic knowledge and modern scientific research can together shape the future of higher education She commended the university’s efforts to integrate yoga, Ayurveda and naturopathy with cutting edge research, generating a model of wellness-centred education.

In her address, the President reflected on the legacy of Maharishi Patanjali lauded as the sage who cleansed the mind through yoga, refined speech through grammar and healed the body through Ayurveda. She noted with satisfaction that the institution is making this rich tradition accessible to society while aligning with national goals of health, harmony and inclusive development.

A key highlight of her speech was the emphasis on individual development as the foundation for family wellness, societal strength and national progress. She affirmed that nurturing individuals fosters families and societies which in turn support the nation’s growth trajectory. She urged the graduates to remain ready for global challenges including climate change and to adopt lifestyles grounded in environmental stewardship and balanced living.

“Education with universal well-being,” she said, “paves the way for harmony and inclusive development.” Her message was clear: knowledge systems should not only advance science and technology but also build ethical, healthy, resilient citizens. At its heart, the convocation captured this convergence: ancient wisdom meeting modern science, cultural roots co-existing with innovation.

For young graduates stepping into the world, the President’s call was to carry forward that dual burdens of competency and conscience to make meaningful contributions in research, industry, health or public service. The University of Patanjali, she added, is well-placed to cultivate such individuals who blend holistic values with academic excellence.

In sum: the convocation set a tone that education is not merely about degrees, but about transforming lives, communities and the nation. The message resonates especially for learners like you (and me) who view education as a bridge to both personal growth and public good. If you’re a student, educator or professional, the underlying takeaway is: align your learning not just with skill, but with purpose.
