A five-year national programme launches to reinvigorate India civilisational scholarship.
Reviving India Knowledge

A landmark collaboration between Adani Group and the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division of the Ministry of Education has set the stage for a bold national initiative to revitalise Indology and India’s civilisational knowledge systems.

Over a five-year period, the programme will invest roughly ₹13.16 crore to support 14 PhD scholars across leading institutions in India. These scholars will work on an array of topics including Paninian grammar, computational linguistics, ancient astronomical systems, traditional engineering and sustainability practices, classical literature, indigenous healthcare frameworks, and heritage studies.

The initiative comes at a time when departments of Indology worldwide have experienced declining support. By integrating classical Indian knowledge with modern research methods data science, systems thinking, multimodal archiving the programme aims to strengthen India’s academic ownership of its own knowledge traditions and enhance its soft-power globally.

Further, the upcoming “Adani Global Indology Conclave: Reviving Parampara for a United World” (scheduled for 20-22 November in Ahmedabad) will bring together scholars, innovators and artists from across the globe to explore and reinterpret Indian knowledge systems.

In essence, this initiative is more than a textbook revival it seeks to weave ancient wisdom into contemporary scholarship and innovation, making it relevant for present and future generations. By doing so, India is not merely looking backwards but using its heritage as a foundation for forward-looking research and impact.

If successful, this effort could rekindle interest in historical intellectual traditions and open avenues for new approaches to sustainability, health and technology rooted in India’s civilisational strengths.
