New Delhi: Just over 5000 seats could be filled at the end of the spot admissions out of total 12,500 seats on offer for the flagship 3-year BSc program. While a few metro IHMs from the Central pool could manage 80 to 90 percent seats, many of their counterparts in tier-2 cities had a difficult time managing even 50 percent admissions this year.

The situation of most State IHMs and private IHMs affiliated with the National Council is quite bad, to say the least. Many of them drew a blank at the end of the usual admission process from the JEE list.

All these years, the Centrals IHMs, 21 of them to be precise, have enjoyed an upper hand in admissions and never faced challenges in terms of getting students. But this time around, many of them were not that lucky. “Many private IHMs drew blank, and many state IHMs had single-digit admissions. It’s a very dangerous signal for hospitality education,” says an IHM principal from Central India. If this side continues, many private and state IHMs will face closure soon, they warn.
