The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has signed an MoU with the University of Leeds to establish the Joint Virtual Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Development (VCoE-SD).

In order to achieve sustainable development goals, the agreement, according to Prof. Vasilis Sarhosis of the University of Leeds, will create a self-sustaining network of top-notch personnel, identify opportunities, and promote significant research and innovation.

Better joint research initiatives between IIT Madras and the University of Leeds would be facilitated by the MoU, which will also involve academic activities including new courses, conferences, seminars, symposia, and lectures.

“As a first initiative, a virtual collaborative group on various topics on sustainability is established. These faculty led activities are expected to result in significant researcher mobility, joint Doctoral, Masters programs and active participation in bi-lateral and multilateral funding opportunities for research and development”, said  Dr. Satyanarayanan Seshadri Advisor, Global Partnership at the Office of Global Engagement, Head, The Energy Consortium, IIT Madras.

Additionally, it will enable a platform to exchange teaching skills and personnel, student placement opportunities, and even publication and other material being shared amongest each other.
