Adityanath declares no school closures happened small ones merged for better facilities, boosting infrastructure, reducing dropouts, improving quality.
In a vigilant address during the debate of the assembly Vision-2047, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded to the concerns of the opposition's alleged school being closed. He assured the legislators that no school has been closed; Rather small schools with low attendance have been merged into integrated campus with good facilities to maintain the ideal student-teacher ratio of 22: 1 and improve the quality of education.
Opposition Leader Mata Prasad Pandey had claimed that the state government had merged 29,000 schools and shut 10,000, accusing it of deliberately marginalizing poor students. Adityanath firmly rebutted this, emphasising that the pre-2017 scenario saw over 156,000 basic schools plagued by poor infrastructure, high dropout rates, and weak teaching quality.
He highlighted that since 2017, initiatives like School Chalo Abhiyan and Operation Kayakalp have reversed this decline. These efforts led to a significant decrease in the dropout rate, enrolled 40 lakh additional children and improved school facilities under Project Alankar including labs, smart classrooms, clean drinking water and establishment of renewed buildings.
Additionally, the government is starting pre-primary classes (LKG, UKG, Nursery) in existing schools and has approved ₹ 100 crore for Chief Minister Nutrition Mission, which aims to solve the problem of malnutrition and anemia in small students. Beyond education, Adityanath noted achievements across sectors:
• Employment— 850,000 youth recruited since 2017, including 175,000 women.
• Women's participation in the workforce rose from 13.5% to 35%; unemployment dropped from 19% to 3%.
• Digital outreach—cyber police stations in every district and a state-level HQ in progress.
• Electrification—250,000 rural hamlets connected by June 2025; installed capacity doubled from 12,000 MW in 2017 to 33,000 MW today.
• Health—two new AIIMS hospitals opened in Gorakhpur and Rae Bareli.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath says that the education system of Uttar Pradesh has not weakened, but it is being consolidated for better quality, including advanced facilities, extended assistance for students including early years of education and emphasis on better infrastructure. Officials believe that these improvements play an important role in promoting equality, decreasing dropout rates and creating a strong educational environment.
