Will CBSE Reduce Class 10, 12 Syllabus? Here’s What the Board Says?

As previously reported, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced substantial changes for the Class 10th and 12th board exams 2025, including a reduction in the syllabus and internal marks. During a meeting with Indore school principals, the CBSE was claimed to have disclosed plans to reduce the class X and XII syllabus by up to 15%.

Vikas Kumar Agrawal, CBSE Regional Officer Bhopal, stated during the ‘Bridging the Gap’ principals’ summit held at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore, “The reduction in the syllabus aligns with CBSE’s ongoing initiatives to reduce the academic burden and enable students to focus more on essential concepts.” He also stated: “This will help students gain a deeper grasp of their subjects”.

What is the truth about CBSE’s 2025 Board syllabus reduction?

Many media reports later claimed that CBSE had chosen to shorten the syllabus for the 2025 Class 10 and 12 board exams by 10-15% in all subjects as part of its efforts to reduce academic stress, saying the cut was “in line with CBSE’s continuous initiatives to lessen the workload and free up students to concentrate more on key ideas.”

According to Aggarwal, by focusing on key topics, the syllabus reduction aims to promote learning by allowing students to understand things more deeply rather than relying exclusively on memory.

Additionally, it was also claimed that the 2025 CBSE exam assessment format will be changed. “Internal assessments will now make up 40% of the final mark for both Classes 10 and 12, with the final written exams accounting for the remaining 60%.”

However, the board’s statement released on Thursday, signed by Vikas Kumar Agrawal states, “CBSE has not made any such change in its examination system and internal evaluation system, nor has any official information been issued in this regard.”

The board stated that any changes in the examination pattern or official updates will be shared through official circulars or their website. It directed the students and general public to avoid unverified news and reports circulating on the internet, asking them to regularly check the board’s website for any new notifications.
