Smt Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, honored and addressed the 20th convocation of the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology in Surat today (February 12, 2024).

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that today everyone talks about Artificial Intelligence. The Government of India and state governments are implementing many programs to utilize the benefits of AI for the development of the country.

Big tech companies are also starting new projects to utilize India's AI potentials. She stated that technology institutes like SVNIT should work closely with the corporate sector, NGOs and research institutes towards reducing the ‘AI skill gap’ of the country.

She added that youth will play an important role in taking India forward in the global race of latest and rapidly changing technologies like AI and machine learning.

The President said that students should use science as a guide for their technical skills, problem solving skills and innovative thinking for nation building. They should not only have to find engineering solutions in line with international standards but also set new standards of innovation, efficiency and inclusion.

They not only have to think about their job and career, but also use their knowledge, alumni networks and technical skills to create new businesses and employment opportunities.

The President advised students to make some ideals for their future life and profession. She said that by doing this, they will never have any difficulty in choosing the right path. She told them to always remain connected to their roots. This connection will help them move ahead and will also prove useful in making life meaningful, she added.

The President was happy to witness the rising number of girl students in engineering colleges and institutes.

She appreciated girls for making their career in science and technology. She urged all NITs to organize programs, campaigns or workshops to encourage more and more girls to study in engineering and technology institutes.
