UGC NET June 2024 Application Process to Commence Today

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) June 2024 edition application period is anticipated to open today, April 20, at the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Taking to social media handle X on Friday evening, UGC chairman, M Jagadish Kumar informed, “NTA will likely launch the application process and information bulletin for the UGC-NET June 2024 session by tonight or tomorrow.”

“What is new in UGC-NET June 2024 session? The candidates who are pursuing Four Year/8 Semester Bachelor’s Degree Programme and are in their last semester/year may also apply for the UGC-NET. The candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree programme are allowed to appear in a subject in which they want to pursue a PhD irrespective of the discipline in which they have obtained the four-year bachelor’s degree,” Jagadish Kumar added.

The University Grants Commission–National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) is a standardised exam in India that determines eligibility for assistant professor positions in Indian universities and colleges, as well as for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the exam, which covers 83 subjects including Economics, History, Anthropology, Commerce, Education, Defence, Strategic Studies, Public Administration, and Population Studies among others.

The 2024 exam will be held from June 10–21, with two shifts from 9 AM–12 PM and 3–6 PM. The exam is computer-based, and candidates must fill out an application form to receive an admit card.

Candidates planning to appear for the exam can complete their online registration on the official website ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

Candidates must have a post-graduation degree from a college or university recognised by the UGC. For reserved category candidates, there is 5% relaxation in educational qualifications.

The test is conducted by the NTA biannually in June and December.

The UGC, recently, has approved the use of National Eligibility Test (NET) scores for PhD admissions starting 2024-25 academic session. The decision will help streamline the admission process under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, to eliminate the need for multiple entrance exams. The results of NET will be declared in percentile along with the marks obtained by a candidate to utilise the marks for PhD admission.
